R gaskets are available in oval or octagonal cross section andmanufactured in accordance to APl 6A and ASME B16.20 to suitAPI6B and ASME/ANSIB16.5 flanges.The Octagonal cross section has a higher sealing efficiencythan the Oval cross section and is therefore preferred.The oval section ring joints were originally designed for thenow obsoleteround bottom groove.Both the Ovaland the Octagonal cross section areinterchangeable on the flat bottom groove design.
